Help Women in Poverty + Get a Cute Scarf
Today on International Women’s Day, and events are held worldwide to recognize & celebrate achievements made by women.
An organization close to my heart that supports women is fashionABLE, a non-profit here in Nashville. fashionABLE creates work for women in Africa and sells the beautiful scarves that the women make.
About fashionABLE: Our commitment as a non-profit is to the development of people — fashionABLE works with women who have been exploited due to the effects of poverty. So, when you purchase a scarf you are providing jobs, and then we send the net profits back to holistically rehabilitate more women.

According to the United Nations Development Program Human Development Report, women in Africa represent 52% of the total population, contributing approximately 75% of the agricultural work and producing 60-80% of the food. Despite these statistics, women earn only 10% of African incomes and own just 1% of the continent’s assets.
Today, fashionABLE is offering free shipping in honor of International Women’s Day. Just enter IWD next to Enter Promo Code in the shopping bag. It’s the perfect opportunity to purchase a cute new accessory for Easter/spring, yes?
Yesterday I went to fashionABLE’s headquarters and got to see past and current collections of scarfs. I am a huge scarf fan and man their spring scarf collection doesn’t disappoint. They gave me this pretty white scarf that I think I will be wearing A LOT this coming spring and summer.
I love that each scarf has a handwritten note from the woman who made it. That personal touch has so much weight. To think that this scarf was made halfway around the world by a working woman like me… wow.
And can you read what her words say? “Because of you, I am able to: face new challenges. Thank you. Feieku”
Today as I wear the scarf made by Feieku, I am praying for her. I am praying for the women who work with her. I am praying for those of you who are able to support fashionABLE and buy a scarf.
May hope be found today in the lives of women around the world.
Looks beautiful on you, Jess! I would love to get one, but they are a little pricey…perhaps if I save my pennies. Praying for these women though. 🙂
Yes, they are more expensive than a scarf at a store like Target, but most handmade items are. And fashionABLE scarves do a lot more too! 🙂
But the gift of your prayers is one not to be taken lightly. Prayer changes lives. Thank you for your kind words.
I have wanted one of these for a while so I had to take advantage of the free shipping code. I had always thought I wanted the gray one until I saw your white one. It will be so cute this spring & summer. I just love how these are helping our sisters across the sea. Thanks for sharing, Jess.
I’m so glad. Yep, the white one is super versatile. I think you will love it!
Jessica…the scarves are beautiful! My daughter spent 6 months in Uganda interning for a company that makes crocheted hats. It is such a blessing to help women begin a new life! Thank You for offering an opportunity to change a womans life!
What an amazing opportunity for your daughter.
What a cool program! Thanks for sharing the info. And on the company’s website there’s a video showing 27 ways to style a scarf, which is cool enough, but then it uses music from Katie Herzig. Bonus!
I love that video!
I thought they would be much more expensive! What a very cool thing — my mom wears scarves a lot, so I sent her the link to the site and now have a birthday gift idea for her:)
Hooray! Love meaningful, practical gifts 🙂
