Preparing for Easter + Our Easter Menu
I can’t believe it is already Easter this weekend! How is March almost over?! I thought it might be fun to share the activities we have planned for the week, as well as our Easter weekend plans.
Activities
Each night we have been reading the Easter story from our The Jesus Storybook Bible. Without question, a children’s bible is the best $10 you can spend on your kids. (If you don’t have the Jesus Storybook Bible, or even if you do, you can get the kindle edition for just $1.99 right now!) Every night Elias says, can we read the bible? So sweet.
We’ll also be reading a few favorite Easter books: The Parable of the Lily and The Easter Story (we love the flaps in this book). I always look at our used book store for Christian-centered holiday books.
On Thursday, the kids are having an Easter egg hunt at school. We may go to a community one on Saturday, but we’re going to play it by ear.
We also planted our first Easter resurrection garden about 10 days ago. I cannot get over how tall the grass is! On Friday, we will put three crosses into the garden and light candles.
Saturday night we will decorate Easter eggs as a family.
Family
My mom, dad, sister (Melissa) and brother-in-law (Dan) are coming down from Wisconsin for the holiday. It will be the first time Dan and Melissa have seen our new home. I’m so excited.
My dad is going to help with a big daddy-do list (he’s super handy). I have a very long-list for him. We’ll see how much he can get done.
My sister is expecting a little boy (due on my birthday – July 27), so we are going to do some registering with my Mom. I’m so glad I get to be a part of it.
On Saturday everyone is going to get to go to Elias’s soccer game and Sunday we will go to church. I’m also planning to cook a big Easter meal (more on that below).
Clothes
For Easter, Adeline is wearing a Jelly the Pug dress from Zulily (man, I love the clothes and deals I find on Zulily. I think all of my favorite clothes – for Elias, Adeline and me are from Zulily.). I bought some fake flowers at Michaels to make her a little headband. Maybe I’ll be lucky and she will keep it on for 5 minutes.
Elias is wearing a simple polo and khakis from Kohls. I have no idea what Matthew and I are wearing. lol.
Easter Baskets
I have the kids’ Easter baskets all ready to go. I have been picking up little gifts here and there for the past three months, so they came together really quickly. If you need any ideas, be sure to check out my list of 101 Kids Easter Basket Ideas. This is one of the most pinned posts on The Mom Creative!
Food
Matthew and I love to cook and are thrilled to make Easter dinner this year. Here’s what’s on the menu:
- A big ham (I ordered a roaster to cook it. We usually cook our ham in Ginger Ale. How do you cook your Easter ham?)
- Scalloped havarti potatoes (these are without questions, the best potatoes you have ever tasted)
- Fruit salad
- Italian salad (mixed with a secret family dressing)
- Fresh steamed green beans
- Carrot cake
- Bunny cupcakes
What are your Easter plans?
We are gathering strays from all over Nashville and doing a hang at our house. Everyone is bringing something to contribute food and drink and wise. Everyone is wearing jeans. Probably.
My kids are teens but still like to color eggs and definitely still like Easter baskets.
I am open to any and all suggestions on what to put into an Easter basket for a 15 year old girl and a 13 year old boy that won’t cost me $100 bucks a piece.
After church, my husband & I will head to my mom’s house to have Easter dinner with the family. We are trying to eat heart-healthy, low sodium so I modified our menu. Found a pre-cooked pork loin that is already sliced, just need to heat. It has 11% of daily recommended sodium as compared to ham 39%(the one I looked at, maybe not all hams have that percentage.) Green beans, steamed potatoes, & corn as sides. Fruit salad and angel food cake.
As our family is in Texas, we are solo for Easter this year. We plan on going to church (Midtown – Crieve Hall) and honestly, we’ll probably go out to eat. Although, I might just have to make deviled eggs. Because that is a family holiday staple. Happy Easter to y’all!!!
Yum………..I can hardly wait….it sound delicious …..Can’t wait for lots of kisses
too !!
