Fringe Friday: Week 4
Welcome to Fringe Friday, an opportunity to share what you have been doing in your fringe hours during the week.
This past week I had two Shutterfly codes expiring – one for a free calendar and one for a free photo book. So one night, I hunkered down and got them both done. It was so fun! Below is the book I made of Elias’s Star Wars party.

I also read an advance copy of Hands Free Life: Nine Habits for Overcoming Distraction, Living Better, and Loving More and loved it! It really inspired me to think about how I parent and live. Definitely pre-order it.
What did you do for you this week?
I love your book and definitely have been putting some of the ideas to use! I’ve been more mindful of my “waiting time” this week; bringing my Kindle along with me and reading more instead of playing with my iPhone. Also, I’ve finally started getting up “early”. After being so sleep deprived with my first child for those first several months, I slept in as much as I could (e.g. till 7am) for a while, but this week I’m getting up 5am-6am to have some more free time. Now I just need to start going to bed earlier!
One struggle I have is that for so many of us living in the CA Bay Area, we have 12 hour work days, whether that is from long work days or even (as with my last job) an 8 hour work day but 3-4 hours of commute time, since housing costs are so astronomical that many families live very far out in order to afford housing. When a parent has to leave the home at 6am every day to drop off at day care then get to work by 8, there is no time in the mornings to get up early for fringe time. And then they have to go to bed very early since they are getting up early too. Yes, there are long terms major changes (relocation to other parts of the country?) that can address some of this, but finding any time for fringe hours seems to be much harder here.
Thanks so much for writing such an important book!
This is great. I love seeing how you find pockets of time to be so productive! I’ve listened to a few podcasts this week where you’ve been the guest, and I have been paying so much more attention to my “fringe hours” this week! Life changing!!
