The Perfect Summer Chocolate Milkshake
This chocolate milkshake recipe is written by me and sponsored by TruMoo Milk. All opinions are 100% mine.
Last week we all had colds and sore throats. One day, after picking up Adeline and Ezra from daycare, I asked Adeline if she would like to stop at McDonalds and get a chocolate milkshake since mommy had a really bad sore throat. She was elated. Of course, that one stop resulted in her requesting a chocolate milkshake every day! This weekend decided to try making our own, much healthier milkshakes and it was a huge success. We used TruMoo chocolate milk and no ice cream. Sounds too good to be true, right? I wouldn’t have believed it would work so well, but it totally did. The secret? Freezing TruMoo in ice cube trays first. Seriously, those frozen TruMoo chocolate milk cubes made that chocolate milkshake heavenly. (Also, I appreciate that TruMoo has no artificial growth hormones and no high fructose corn syrup in it.) I told the kids that we would make shakes after their naps. As soon as they woke up, they were bouncing off the walls, ready to make the chocolate milkshakes. We had so much fun making them. We used this TruMoo Ambassador recipe, which was so simple: 1 tray of frozen TruMoo chocolate milk 1 cup of fresh (unfrozen) TruMoo 3-4 oreo cookies (Doubling the recipe resulted in three full mason jar shakes – one for each of us!) We blended everything in on Ninja blender. The kids took turns putting the ingredients in and then shrieked as they took turns pushing the button. Taking turns is VERY important when cooking with kids. 🙂 It was hysterical. To make the shakes over the top awesome, we added a bit of whipped cream and chocolate sauce. The kids were giddy! They loved the milk’s chocolate flavor and I loved how easy they were too make. No more after school shake runs or debates about stopping at McDonalds. We are making chocolate milkshakes at home with TruMoo from now on. As a girl who grew up in Wisconsin and drank no less than two cups of milk a day, I can’t believe I have never frozen milk before. I now want to try it for other shakes and flavors. I’m thinking peanut butter and frozen chocolate milk would be amazing. It might also be fun to add in a banana.
Do you make milkshakes at home? If so, what is your favorite flavor/recipe?
