DIY Tutorial: Simple Lace Christmas Trees
Have you seen any lace Christmas trees? One of the trends I have noticed this Christmas season is how prevalent cone shaped trees covered in different materials are. They are everywhere! I have seen them in lace, burlap, sequins, and more.
I have noticed that these lace Christmas trees are often $10-$20, and you can easily make them for a lot less, with very few supplies. All you need are styrofoam cones and then the media you want to wrap the tree in (I chose lace!).
This lace Christmas tree project is super, super easy to execute and is perfect for your home decor or to give as Christmas presents.
Supplies needed:
- Styrofoam cone (any size)
- Lace
- Elmer’s Enhanced Safety Glue Gun (available at Michaels)
- Elmer’s CraftBond hot glue (available at Michaels)
Steps:
Cover the tip of the cone with the lace. Adhere the lace with hot glue. Be sure that the strip goes about one inch down on either side.
Then starting at the bottom of the cone, put hot glue in a line along the bottom, then attach the lace. Continue to wrap the tree with the lace hot gluing it every few inches. As you wrap, keep the lace at a slight angle.
Depending on your strip of lace, you may need several strands of lace. Be sure to match up the lace and glue the pieces close together.
Once you get to the top, glue the entire piece to keep it secure. Trim it and you have a beautiful tree.
Total time for project (10-15 minutes)
This was my second time using this new Elmer’s CraftBond hot glue. Sometimes it can be tricky hot gluing on styrofoam because it will melt the foam, but I didn’t find that to be the case. Plus, it is far less stringy than regular hot glue. The glue comes out cleanly and exactly where you want it to go. I don’t think I will ever buy another kind of hot glue again (it works with any glue gun).
If you are looking for a fun craft to do this weekend, I highly recommend this one. See how many pretty lace Christmas trees you can make! You could easily follow the same steps with other media. I think I am going to do one with some burlap next!

Love this. My 16 year old was just admiring some tree candles in the Crate & Barrel catalog. They are rather expensive! And then I saw this post. I shared it with her and we are thinking up a pretty table centerpiece using this idea 🙂 Thank you!
