Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star Party {perfect for a boy or girl’s party}

Ezra turned one a few weeks ago and we celebrated with a Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star party.

I had the Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star invitation designed on Etsy and then printed with credits I had saved from Minted.

I shot the photo of Ezra myself using this backdrop.

It took me a while to find a boyish shirt with stars on it on Etsy, but finally I found this one. I had it made with a red “1” to go with the party colors.

The bulk of the decorations were in the dining room. I covered one wall in gold streamers and gold 3-dimensional stars. I found the stars after Christmas at Target, but these stars would also work.

Throughout our home, I also had gold buntings up. These were from Minted (first used at my aunt’s 60th birthday party) and added a lot to the decor. I had them everywhere (though I didn’t seem to take many pictures that included them). I also cut one down to use on Ezra’s high chair.

For that bunting, I used my Silhouette to add “ONE” and then some star stickers. It was simple and cute.

The Silhouette was also helpful in creating a Twinkle Twinkle Little Star banner for the window in the dining room.

I also bought star balloons, which I tied to our mailbox.

Using a pack of star shaped plates from the dollar store, I made little stars to go up the path to our front door. It took about 5 minutes to make them and they looked so cute.

For the table, I used a white plastic tablecloth and some gold wrapping paper (also bought after Christmas). I used this wrapped paper on the favor station and the drink station as well.

In the center of the table, I used a star basket with some mason jars in it for flowers + a picture of Ezra in a star frame.

I also wanted to display monthly photos of Ezra. This frame from Personal Creations was perfect and a hit with all the guests.

The menu for the brunch included:

• Star biscuits and jelly
• Apple raisin french toast bake
• Ham and egg casserole
• Sausage
• Bacon
• Fruit, with watermelon cut like stars

We made too much food (as usual!). If I were to do this menu again, I would not make the ham and egg casserole, as most of it was left after the party. Also, I served the sausage and bacon in a buffet server, which I highly recommend owning if you like to host parties.

The star biscuits and star shaped fruit were cut with star cookie cutters. I found a lot of star shaped food inspiration on Pinterest.

Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star Party Cake and Cupcakes

Because so many people were going to be at the party, I decided to make cupcakes to serve for dessert. To keep with the theme, I sprinkled Wilton Edible Gold Stars on the buttercream frosted cupcakes, then added star picks to each cake.

As for Ezra’s smash cake, I bought a small plain cake at the grocery store, then frosted it and added the Wilton Edible Gold Stars. (If you go to your grocery store and ask, many will give you the option to buy a plain frosted, or crumb coated cake. I bought mine at Publix for $10, which saved me so much time.)

I made the Twinkle Twinkle cake topper with gold cardstock using my Silhouette. I found the template in the Silhouette store. After it was cut, I glued it to two candy sticks.

Ezra absolutely LOVED the cake. We got so many fun photos of him. He started eating it before the candle was even blown out.

Though it was cold outside, I wanted to set up a small photo spot to take some party photos. We didn’t have a great place to do this in our home, so I set it up on our deck. Here is a behind the scenes shot.

It turned out SO cute! Unfortunately I didn’t get a ton of pictures during the party (I had intended to get each family  to take a picture with Ezra, but I did get some fun ones of him and our family.

I found small star marquees at Target 90% off in their summer clearance (they were only 50 cents each) so the big kids got those. I wrapped them in cellophane and tied them with a star tag that I cut using my Silhouette Cameo. The little kids got nursery rhyme books that included a CD with Twinkle Twinkle Little Star, which I found at the dollar store.

Additionally, the kids all got Star water bottles (also from Target 90% off sale) and star party hats.

The Dollar Store had metallic hats 8 for $1 and I simply added a star sticker to each hat.

Because so many big kids were coming, I wanted to have a few small activities for them, so we set up a coloring station with God Made Light coloring sheets and a star station where they could decorate popsicle stick stars.

To keep it easy, I made the stars ahead of time and had out a variety of decorations they could use to enhance them. A few of the girls really got into them. It was so cute!

It was the perfect first birthday party!
