Podcast: The Year In Review of Books
Talking about books is one of my great joys. I love recommending excellent books to others. This year was a huge reading year for me. I feel like I got my mojo back after a few years of not prioritizing reading. It has been incredibly gratifying and I’m so proud to have read 50 books in 2016.
Last week I had the pleasure of being on Sorta Awesome’s end of the year books episode. It was *awesome* (see what I did there) chatting with co-hosts Megan and Laura about our favorite books. Sorta Awesome is one of my favorite podcasts and if you are a reader, I know you will enjoy the episode.
You can download/listen to the episode here.
A few of my favorite books that I mentioned included:
Lilac Girls (I adored the audio book)
When Breath Becomes Air
Dark Matter
I Let You Go
Before The Fall
The Wonder
My top pick of the year was Homegoing. I read several books related to slavery this year, and all ranked high on my list. Others that I read this year or in the past and would recommend include:
The Kitchen House
Someone Knows My Name
The Invention of Wings
Yellow Crocus
On the podcast Laura talked passionately about The Underground Railroad, and it is a book I am very eager to read in 2017.
We also discussed Book of the Month, which is my favorite gift I gave myself in 2016. I have never been so “on top of” the hot books in a current year and I have loved the community of other Book of the Month subscribers.
Right now Book of the Month is offering a one-month trial for just $5. That’s basically a cup of coffee. Treat yourself with a fantastic book. I promise, you’ll love it!
And if you want to go ahead and sign up for a longer subscription, you can get 30% off a three-month subscription + a fun Book of the Month tote. (The tote is SO sturdy. It’s become a favorite library bag for us.)
Lastly, I shared how listening to audiobooks changed my reading life this year. If you don’t yet listen to audio books, you are missing out. I encourage you to try Audible and get two free audiobooks. You’ll totally be hooked! (A few favorites from 2016: Lilac Girls, The Year of Yes and Outlander.)
I hope you’ll check out the podcast and tell me what books it inspires you to add to your to be read list!
Also, in case you missed it, earlier this month I shared my top 10 books of 2016. My surgery recovery has been very slow and hard, so I haven’t read this month, but I think I am about to turn a corner and am looking forward to lots of reading this next week.
Happy reading!
