Halloween Safety: Use These Cool Lights for Kids While Trick-or-Treating
This post is sponsored by Energizer.
With Halloween just a few days away, it is crunch time for DIYing, buying candy and making sure our kids are safe for trick-or-treating.
This year, our family theme is Super Mario Bros. and I have been hard at work on our costumes. But as much as I love a good theme, I care even more about keeping our kids safe while we are out having fun. Did you know that on Halloween night, on average twice as many children are killed while walking? Working at a children’s hospital means I am very aware of these awful statistics and am all the more vigilant about Halloween safety for my kids.
As Matthew and I have talked about our trick-or-treat plans with the kids, we have discussed the importance of being especially mindful of cars and never darting across the street. As I’ve thought about Halloween safety, I’ve considered various lights to help the kids stand out to cars and to be able to see during the dark night. I know people love using glow sticks, but I wanted something a little stronger this year.
Lights to Keep Kids Safe
Energizer has some really neat product offerings that are perfect for staying safe this Halloween. They sent them to me to try out for and I wanted to share them with you here because they are so smart. I know they are going to make a big difference this Halloween.
Hands Free Light
This year, we are planning to give Ezra an Energizer® 2-in-1 Personal Light for trick-or-treating. The hands-free, wearable light is the perfect tool to illuminate after-dark activities. He tried it out when we played dress up this weekend and thought it was SO cool, as you can tell from these photos – ha! The directional beam also sheds light on dark sidewalks to help prevent children from tripping.
Magnet Light
For Adeline, I’m going to attach an Energizer® LED Magnet Light to her costume. This light is so cool – it attaches to any article of clothing with a magnet and is incredibly bright.
After Halloween we will totally be using this as a book light. Matthew also tried it out on his shirt for while he woodcarves. So many fun uses! It would also make a great stocking stuffer.
Headlight
Light shouldn’t be limited to kids though. I plan to wear an Energizer® Vision HD + Headlight wrapped around my wrist for extra visibility. The light combined with my awesome costume (can’t wait to share it) should have me standing out while trick-or-treating!
When we were trying out the lights this weekend, Elias LOVED wearing it on his head. I also think it could be good to wrap around a Halloween candy bucket.
Lantern Light
We also plan to have an Energizer® Weatheready® 360º LED Area Light in our stroller. Though Ezra can walk this year, I have a feeling he will get tuckered out by the end, so we will . This light is the perfect traveling beacon for trick-or-treating. It also would be perfect on a porch or in a yard. I’ve had it out this week on our porch with all of our painted pumpkins, since they aren’t carved. It’s casts the perfect glow.

I hope this encourages you to evaluate how you can help your kids stay safe while trick-or-treating this year.

My neighborhood doesn’t have street lights so flashlights are a must. The kids hate carrying them around though. I like these and the idea to use them as a book light after Halloween is genius!
Sounds like these might be a good solution for your family!
We have lots of street lights here, but I still usually take a flashlight and the kids usually wear light up bracelets and necklaces. But I think wearing lights like this is even better.
So smart!
