5 Ways to Clean Your Car with Kids
This post on how to clean your car is sponsored by Swiffer. All ideas my own!
With kids, it can be difficult to keep your car clean. The older my kids get, the more they want to bring with them in the car. The trouble is that they are terrible about remembering to take the items back in the house and I don’t always stay on top of them.
Last week, after dinner the kids and I went out to my minivan to do a quick clean up. Did anyone want to do this project? No, of course not. But within 10 minutes we had the van in much better shape. I felt better knowing that I was heading into surgery and that the van was orderly.
If your vehicle could use a little spring cleaning, here are a few tips for getting it done quickly with your children:
Gather everything up: I used a big thirty-one tote and instructed the kids to fill it up with anything that needed to be brought in the house. From books to water bottles to crayons, everything went in that big tote. Then, after we finished cleaning up the van, I carried the tote inside and the kids were responsible for putting everything away.
Use a small plastic grocery bag for trash: Inevitably, you’ll find some trash. From papers to snack packaging, everything that was trash went in this smaller bag. If you have a trash can in your car, take this clean up opportunity to empty it. (Find car trash cans here.)
Use a Swiffer 360 Duster for your dash and window sills: I love the Swiffer 360 Duster because once dust/dirt hits it, it never lets it go. Every kid wanted to take a turn using the duster – even Ezra. It was an easy way for them to see their results with all the dust clinging to the yellow duster.
It is also small enough that I keep it in the car door to access often.
Use car wipes for the seats: Our van has leather seats which makes clean up easy. We just used used some wipes on the seats and arm rests to get everything sparkling. If your children have drawn on anything, Mr. Clean Magic Erasers can be a lifesaver (ask me how I know!).
Vacuum: The last step is to vacuum your car floors. We don’t do this every time we clean the van out, but I am always happy when we DO include it always makes the vehicle look extra nice.
I hope this inspires you to involve your kids in your car clean up. You’ll feel so much better in a spic and span car, and you are teaching your children good habits by involving them in the process.
