Our Vacation to Italy
My grandfather was 100% Italian and from the time I was a very young child, I have dreamed of visiting Italy. I remember spinning the globe at my grandparents’ house and looking at the boot shaped country that was so far from Wisconsin.
I fell in love with all kinds of pastas, Italian salads and pizzas. My mom would make homemade sauce on the stove, the same way her grandmother had made it for her as a child, simmering all day long.
This past week Matthew and I were in Italy for what felt like a trip of a lifetime. Our plane tickets were bought on a whim when I stumbled on a deal to fly there for just $450 roundtrip, per person. It’s our 15-year anniversary this fall, and Italy seemed like the perfect way to celebrate. My mom flew to Nashville for the week to take care of our kids and we enjoyed a week with just one another. (Seriously, if you don’t ever get away from your kids, I highly recommend doing so. Quality, extended time away is so refreshing for a relationship. I believe it is also important for our kids to see us spending time investing in one another.)
Over the next few weeks, I plan to share about the trip since I received so many comments and messages from people who wanted more details for their own Italian vacations. We had such a wonderful trip and I can’t wait to share more of it with you.
A few highlights:
Experiencing the art of Florence
Making pasta at a 700-year-old farmhouse in Tuscany
Riding a train through the Swiss Alps
Enjoying a gondola ride in Venice

I am so happy for you. We are celebrating our 15th anniversary today actually 🙂 I had hoped that we would be able to take a trip to celebrate but owning our own startup small business meant this wasn’t possible at this point in time. I was so disappointed but can’t complain because God has been so faithful and so good. While I wait, I enjoy your gorgeous pictures and am so happy that you got to have this wonderful time away with Matthew. Happy early anniversary to you too!
This is so exciting! I want you to include details of how you got from one place to another, how you decided on places to stay (did you overnight in the different places), and how or through what site you set up excursions. And probably a lot more too, but that’s what I’m wondering now!
Yes! The short answer is that we did five nights in Florence and two nights in Milan, then did day trips by bus/train. We decided it was better to do day trips, then multiple overnights/dealing with hauling luggage, etc. I will share more in posts to come.
