Most Recommended Audiobooks
I love listening to audiobooks. There is something so special about the way an audiobook transports you. A great performance, a cast with multiples readers or the author of a memoir are all phenomenal audio experiences. Here are the audiobooks that over the years I still think about and recommend. If you are looking for a great listen, look no further than this list.
NOTE: if you don’t have Audible for listening to audiobooks, you can currently get three months, for $.99/month. That means you could get three of these books (or others!) for free. Most Recommended Audiobooks
The Dutch House: Tom Hanks reads this book and I will never, ever stop recommending it. It is the book that made me fall in love with Ann Patchett.
Tom Lake: This is Ann’s latest book and, though I thought Tom Hanks reading a book was the best audio experience ever, Meryl Streep might be better.
Spare: I feel like everyone needs to listen to Prince Harry tell his story from his own mouth before forming opinions of him. Wow.
Lilac Girls: I loved this WWII historical fiction book based on true events. With three phenomenal readers, I remember crying in the grocery store as I listened.
Anne of Green Gables, read by Rachel McAdams: I have loved Anne my whole life, but listening to Rachel McAdams as Anne was an utter delight.
This Time Tomorrow: This story of time travel and a girl trying to save her dad still haunts me. What if we could change the future?
What Happened to You?: Read by Oprah and Bruce Perry, this book will give you deeper understanding of trauma and deeper empathy for the people in your life. A powerful book that I loved so much I got the hard copy too.
Project Hail Mary: I am not sci-fi fan normally, but this audiobook had me hooked within one minute and I still talk about it years later. Trust me. You’ll understand when you listen to it.
I am Pilgrim: This is one of my favorite thrillers of all time. It’s a slow burn at the beginning, but worth it. The end had me on the edge of my seat to such a degree, I checked the book out at the library so I could read faster.
Outlander: I don’t read much time travel, so it’s funny I have two on this list. Outlander has history, love, time travel all together in a riveting, lengthy listen.
Carrie Soto is Back: Taylor Jenkins Reid is a phenomenal writer and this story of a tennis pro who comes out of retirement made me want to watch the US Open. A full cast that is an awesome listen.
