  1. Iread Angie’s blog and started reading your blog when you were in labor. You guys are great and Elias is so cute! I had to pause the video, to totally agree with you… with all 3 of my kids, I used Pampers Diapers and Huggies wipes! Why is it that way? Crazy!

  2. That is just the cutest video!!!
I couldn’t see Matthew’s pictures but I have to say that Eli looks like his mom! I don’t know…but to me that’s the deal.
I’m a granma so can’t vote on the diaper thing as my 2 kiddos wore cloth (eeeuuuuwwww). I think I’d go for disposable though…either brand just because they’d be better than what I had to deal with.
Love your blog….oh, when he begins to talk and say cute things take the time to write them down. You “think” you’re going to remember everything, but trust me, you will not! But then maybe I’m preaching to the choir here since you scrapbook!

  3. Love your videos! They always make me laugh 🙂
I also totally agree with you……nothing but Pampers Diapers and Huggies Wipes for my babies!
    Blessings!

  4. sure. everybody take my wife’s side! lol… kidding. you totally should. she’s right about almost everything.

  5. love the updates…..elias is getting so big already. i agree pampers are the best diapers…even 20 years ago. take care.

  6. Elias is so cute, I love your family (the 3 of you are perfect for each other).
I would love the book, I just dont know if you would send it to Puerto Rico, if not I have a PoBox in Florida (I will email it to you if you pick me 😉

  7. Isn’t it amazing how in one month your world completely changes… and how smitten you are with God’s gift to you?

  8. Hey you guys….its 11:40 pm and I just walked in the door and was so excited to see the video of the 3 of you!! Love those pjs Elias was in….the little sweet pea 🙂 We can see he is getting bigger…can’t wait to hold him next week……mom

  9. Can’t remember how I ran into your blog, but I enjoy it!

There are four books by the author of “If You Give a Mouse a Cookie.” Don’t miss reading Elias “If You Give a Moose a Muffin”, “If You Bring a Mouse to School”, and “If You Give a Pig a Pancake”!

Agree of Pampers (we have three kids now and have tried everything). We even did cloth…but once our second baby came along, couldn’t keep up. Costco wipes are good (my husband prefers them), I like Pampers wipes.

The frequent poops cracked me up! My boys pooped constantly (even after weaned) but my 3 month old baby girl is giving me a break…she is completely different!

Anyways, I enjoy your blog and like the videos! I find your blog entertaining!

  10. Howdy! Just have to agree with Jessica (sorry Matthew) that the Huggies wipes are a MUST and the Pamper’s diapers are the only way to go. Have no idea why the Pamper’s wipes suck so bad?

By the way, I just bought the fish shirt for my Eli last week b/c he is biting everything and everyone. It is a totally great time to buy clothing for the seasons to come. You won’t regret doing that!

Congrats on your first month. It only gets better…

  11. Go read my comment on your hubby’s blog! My bloglist is alphabetical so I always get to his first (I go down the list).

Gotta love your Target deals! I think that little shirt is CUTE and perfect for a little boy!!!

  12. I don’t usually comment, but I have to say that I agree on the Pampers diapers for newborn and 1 sizes, but Luvs have been awesome since then. And Luvs were what fit my older son the best. Oh, and I don’t know if you go to Walmart much, but Parent’s Choice Sensitive wipes are by far the best out there. Huggies were awesome until I used them. They are just like using a wash cloth – absolutely awesome.

  13. Hi there! Elias looks like he is such a good boy! What a cutie too! I totally agree Pampers diapers ROCK and Huggies are odd shaped. I LOVE Parent’s Choice wipes — they’re a good price and they’re thicker than most wipes. You go girl with your scrap book! Oh yes breast fed babies do poop A LOT more! LOL!! I am so impressed with how well rested you two are..you’re blessed! At one month I was still living in a daze but then again my daughter wasn’t a sleeper, wouldn’t latch on so I was bottle feeding her pumped breast milk and that was quite a schedule to keep up. LOVE your blog! Lots of Love!

  14. I love your blog and especially your videos because you 2 are so candid and honest. I love watching couples who LOVE being parents!!

  15. Thank you for “JUMP STARTING” my day! You guys are having a wonderful time. I like sales too! Elias, well he is more than Precious! Hey, I thought from the first pix that he looked like his Mommy! Have a great day. Pampers were our choice of diapers 24 years ago! Love, Rose in Nashville

  16. Hi Jessica and Paul, I started reading your blog from when you posted on Angie’s. You two just crack me up watching your videos. It brings back SO many memories. My kids are 15 and 18….

I used Huggies with my daughter but I think I used Pampers with my son.. I honestly can’t remember..its been 18 years.

Enjoy all these special times cause they go by so so fast!

A book that was a favorite for my son was There were Ten in the Bed…we still have that book 🙂

I love all your scrapbooking things you do too…since I scrap and am amaze that you can get stuff done with a newborn since I can’t ever seem to sit my butt down and do any 🙂

  17. the crazy thing is… I feel like I know you. I am addicted to reading blogs! LOVE your video… good luck… it only gets better as they get older. my babies are 4 and 7 now! Tulsa, OK

  18. (hey! I’ve been a reader of you and Matthew for about a month now. )
I have to disagree about the pampers thing.
I always thought that Pampers had a distinctly weird smell.
I swore by Huggies with my boys. (now 5 and 7 years… time flies!!)
You have to be sure not to buy the Huggies “supremes”…. they DO have a weird shape. BUT the regular old huggies are terrific.

Some of my friends enjoyed the Target brand… it may be worth a try.
    🙂

  19. you three are so cute. and a 74 tshirt is cute no matter what’s on it! the pee pee teepee cracked me up. glad to know it doesn’t work though since i had to struggle through diaper changes without it. jessica – you are totally right on the huggies wipes – they are the best, but for us – pampers diapers leaked. maybe because cole was so little the huggies just worked better, i don’t know. i was all about the huggies though! glad to know the first month has been so great!! can’t wait to hear about the next one!

  20. I started reading your blog when Audrey was born and have been hooked ever since! I loved the coverage that Angie & Matthew gave during Elias' birth. You and Matthew are such cute parents. Elias is beautiful! Congratulations!!

P.S. I also hated Huggies diapers for my little girl until she outgrew the Pampers newborns, then Huggies newborn diapers would fit without leaks.

  21. My little daugter was on my lap during the video and she was like " why are they talking to us mommy? Are they talking to me? " Yes honey they were – about Huggies diapers of all things. And I have to say that I agree that at first pampers work for little boys – but in another month or two I think you will find that Huggies actually will work better. They leak less and don't feel so soggy.
You and matt are HILARIOUS> very funny.
And Eli – you are cuter than both of your parents … I'm just saying!

  22. I want to start off by saying that I LOVE your videos!! You guys are so cute! I have to check your blog everyday! It’s on my favorite list! I have 3 kids and the first two were girls and I used Huggies. Huggies is a great diaper for girls. My third child is a boy and I have to say that when he was a newborn, all we could use were pampers. But, as he got older, he started leaking out of the pampers and we had to switch to Huggies! It’s when he started moving and crawling….that’s when I had to switch! Didn’t mean to make this comment all about diapers, but now you know! Thanks so much for your blog!

  23. Hi Jessica. You don’t know me, but I came across your blog when I was on Angie’s blog. You have a beautiful family and I really enjoy your page. Just wanted to stop by and say hello.

    Love,
    Lauren

  24. Great update! For the record (not that my opinion counts), after 3 boys, Luvs are my favorite. And Matthew is right…the generic Cosco/Sam’s wipes are the best…God Bless!

  25. Hi!
Oh my goodness, too funny..pee pee, tee pee…It looked a little awkward, didn’t it!? I still stuck with the kleenex option for my boys, especially the puffs plus, they’re thicker 😉
Elias is getting so big and he’s still so beautiful! You two seem to be doing a great job, keep it up!
Oh, Matt…that pirhana shirt will be fitting when Jessica gets ‘her’ first bite from Eli! (sorry Jess, it’s bound to happen!)
    God’s blessings..
    Lyne

  26. I have a little boy as well and I am a PAMPERS mama all the way! Huggies almost get to big and bulky when they get wet. Pampers is just right! 🙂
I actually like the Pampers wipes better for him as well because ALL other wipes have given him rashes (even now when he is 13 months!). I haven’t figured out the reason though!
To each his own though and with babies you have to do what works! Elias is so cute! Loved the video blog as well! Take care!

  27. So TRUE…I have 3 and I totally agree that Pampers is hands down the best diaper and Huggies wipes are in a class of their own 🙂

  28. First of all, I love these video updates. I found my way to your blog through Angie’s, and have loved getting “to know” you and Matthew and your beautiful family. What I love most is watching you all explore this new “threesome” and how much fun you all are having navigating parenthood. Elias is super cute!! (And BTW, you look great!!)

Second, I SO hear ya on the Pampers. Swaddlers when my guys were born, and now my little one is in Cruisers. Love ’em, love ’em, love ’em. And yes, it’s a bummer Costco doesn’t carry them. But, they coupon like crazy so we get really good deals at Target so it’s probably a wash. (Get on their mailing list if you haven’t already.) As for wipes, I used to swear by the Huggies wipes, too, and poo-poo’d (no pun intended) the Costco Kirkland wipes with my first son. But with #2 (again, no pun…), have come to LOVE the Kirkland wipes. Cheaper, just as absorbant (even though they *seem* thinner), and love that the package is the container (this is especially great for the diaper bag…you always know how many you have and aren’t using up space in a half-empty container–and no refilling the portable container!). Anyway, my $.02. Have a great day!!

  29. Keep the advice coming!!
We’re expecting a boy (if Intelligender is correct) in January and we’ll take all the tips we can get. From new parents. Old parents can keep their two cents. :0)

  30. He DOES look like Matthew! 🙂 Teepee whatever – hey a cloth diaper/or wipe works too – just lay that over him b’4 you zip him into his next diaper! I used cloth diapers – it was the late 70’s but just didn’t have the moola for the disposable and it grossed me out to send THAT to the landfill – but that’s just me.
I LOVE the piranah shirt – just don’t let him see himself IN it. 🙂
Ya – gotta read the moose cookie book to him too! 🙂 Very Alaskan!
God bless and keep up the good work!

  31. You know what I think? I love your video blog’s so much that I think you should do one every day.Well that might not me realistic but it would be super fun!I have to say I am quite devoted to the Huggies wipes.I love the cucumber scented ones.So fresh! My little girl is 2 months and we have used Pampers Swadlers from day one. They just do not leak.Have a great day!Elias is beautiful!Like anyone has to tell you that!

  32. commented on Matthew’s blog …..loved the way Elias just slept thru the whole thing. He is a little love and the world’s most documented baby!

  33. Great video!
Diapers… so funny, I’m a Huggies mom all the way, totally loved them for both a girl and a boy. Pampers didn’t work for them! It’s so funny how we’re all different!
The Costco wipes are perfect for on the go. You can just put a whole package in the car and not worry about refilling a small plastic container… love them for that.
You’re doing great. We all figure out how we like things along the way and what works for us isn’t usually what works for somebody else.
I’ll be praying for the sandbox!
    Angie

  34. It is so funny that you said that about Pampers diapers and Huggies wipes! I used the exact same thing for both of my kids who are 6 and 3:) Cruisers are awesome but the pampers wipes suck and I still use Huggies wipes for everything with my kids like wiping faces etc.

  35. I love your video’s !! Today my son Nicholas 27yrs old is coming home from AZ. He is going to be in his best friends wedding on Friday. A am so excited to see Nicholas. It’s been 8 months since he was home!! I wish he was Elias age again and still in my arms everyday! Just to let you know I still buy Huggies wipes to have on hand when my friends bring over their little ones. They are always great to have on hand in your car to take into the store to wipe off the dirty shopping cart handles especially once Elias rides in your grocery cart!! Enjoy your 1 month birthday Elias!

  36. thanks for the video, i needed the laugh.

t-shirt is precious and the fact it was $.74 makes it especially precious. 🙂

  37. How cute…

Have you tried Luvs? They are made by Pampers and are basically the same diaper but usually cheaper…just a thought 🙂

    Happy 1 month birthday !!!!

  38. I'm going to have to disagree on the diaper issue…I have 4 kids (3 girls & 1 boy) and for 12 1/2 years have ONLY used Huggies Supreme Diapers & Pampers Wipes (Huggies wipes smell horrible)!

    Just my 2 cents! 🙂

    Enjoy your blog!

  39. OMG you guys totally crack me up. My stomach actually hurt from laughing at the ugly fish t-shirt, I’m sorry Jessica but Matthew is right that t-shirt is scary. But I’m a big clearance shopper too so I know it has its pitfuls, you always end up buying crazy stuff just because its on sale.

Elias is looking gorgeous as always, he’s really filling out now.

    Byes 😉

  40. Happy One Month!! If You Give A Mouse a Cookie was my all time favorite as a kid, and well, must admit, it still ranks pretty high up there!! I have a cousin who works at costco, and apparently the costco brand diapers are made by pampers (fyi!) and are considerably cheaper.

  41. You guys make me want to have a baby…but I’m not even married and I’m only 24. this blog is not the greatest form of birth control. haha KIDDING! Seriously though, you guys are so cute and Elias is even cuter!

  42. I just loved your video. I am a mother of 5 children and the two of you just make me laugh. Wonderful parents you are making and I love how you work TOGETHER!!!

Enjoy your time with your son because it goes by very fast!!! My oldest just started high school yesterday and I cried. I remember being where you are and I love that you are embracing every moments.

    God Bless,

  43. You guys are a hoot! I found out about your blog from Angie Smiths blog. (I lost my baby girl, Mia, in May). You guys make me laugh and I share in your joy for your precious baby Elias. He is truely a miracle. Enjoy every moment, it goes by soo fast! I wish I would have blogged with my other children like you have. He will enjoy watching this when he’s older! Keep on blogging!

  44. Cute video! But I have to disagree on the diapers. Pampers, though a good diaper, are way too expensive! You being the bargain shopper will understand me when I say that I just can’t buy the most expensive of anything! Honestly, I haven’t met a diaper that doesn’t leak when a baby really does a number! 🙂 We’ve tried them all, and though the generic brands like at Publix and Target really do leak much more often, we found that Huggies held up the best. But they still don’t make it overnight for our little man, whose 16 mths now – so we use Overnights, again by Huggies. And I love Huggies wipes as well. They really are the thickest I’ve ever tried and the most moist. They do the job the best so you use less. Just don’t rule out Huggies yet, as your little boy gets older you might find they will work better for you. If that does happen keep an eye for the Costco coupons for money off when you buy Huggies diaper and wipes together…it really makes them a better bargain than Pampers.

  45. Sorry to comment a second time, but I had to mention that I’ve found that for the best bargains on baby clothes to go to Macy’s and The Children’s Place. Target has good sales too but I’ve been happier with the way the clothes from Macy’s and Children’s Place stand up to washing. Just keep an eye on their sale racks, and for their coupons.

  46. Hopefully he doesn’t become a chunker like the baby I take care of. He is 7 mo. old and wears 12 mo. clothes. If so, he won’t fit in those clothes by next summer (assuming you got 12 mo.) Either way, yay for clearance shopping.

  47. I want to win. I am not shy. I just dropped off my first and oldest child to college. I NEED THIS BOOK!!!!! I cried for 19 minutes- that is how old he is and I felt I was entitled to the 19 minutes. HA HA HA 🙂 I am so sad!
    I miss him already. 🙁
Glad things are going well. Elias has gotten so big already. You must be feeding him good. Matthew great dad as always. Jessica you look fantastic and I can see how much you love Elias- it is so cute.
    Love Michele

  48. I love you guys… you make me laugh!! You are the sweetest little family. I have been reading your blog since April when I found Angie’s blog. I have three boys and it is all about Pampers diapers and Huggies wipes… don’t know what it is but it’s a great combo!! I have recently started using Luvs with my 19 month old because they are SO much cheaper and they do work great. When they are newborns however, that is a different story! Take care and enjoy every minute 🙂

  49. Hi Jessica,
I found you through Angie’s blog. I love pampers too. One idea that I thought I’d share is to keep one of the little diapers for Elia’s babybook. My kids (11, 9, 7) can’t believe they used to be so small. I LOVED huggies wipes too and used them for EVERYTHING. So glad you are enjoying every little minute with your son because it does go so fast. My baby boy is now seven.

  50. Hello, just found your blog today. Right on, Pampers Rock! I have 2 boys 16 months apart, both in diapers currently. I thought our family was keeping Pampers in business. My favorite wipes are CVS brand. I like Huggies, but sometimes they tear. I use the CVS wipes in the Huggies containers (I like those with the rubbery wipe grippers in the lid.) Congratulations. Kids really do teach us so much more than we teach them.

  51. i so agree with the pampers comments! we have an almost 3 month old boy…we found the same thing out. they do pee and poop all the time…but the pooping does slow down (i breastfeed as well). we’re only a few months ahead of you…and it only gets better! we ask ourselves all the time…what did we do before we had him?? babies are such a blessing!

  52. GO PAMPERS!!!! WOo hooo! 🙂

My son is just a year old and I completely agree on the whole Pampers vs. Huggies diapers debate – Swaddlers Rock and Cruisers are just as good when they get movin’.

As for the wipes debate – Agree that Huggies wipes are better, but there isn’t as drastic of a different here. HOWEVER, I’ve recently discovered Playskool “Cottony Cloths”. They are SOOOO thick and soft. And BONUS they are sold as CVS so you can use your extra bucks for something you need anyways. Figured you were a CVSer given that you’re a bargain shopper.

Thanks for keeping a great blog. And by the way if you think things change in a month – just wait we just hit the 1 year mark and boy do things change. It’s kinda crazy! 🙂

    Happy Thursday!
    ~Kristen

Oh and little tid bit for the future – Walmart has the least expensive Gerber baby food tubs/jars.

  53. I hate to disagree with everyone but I prefer Huggies over Pampers. I do agree that Huggies wipes are better than pampers for sure. Like the other girl said Parents Choice wipes from Walmart are good too.

  54. I found your blog from Angie’s and I love reading/watching you all! I am the mom of 4 boys(ages 2-8) and I TOTALLY agree with the Pampers thing! For a fun book try Red Hat, Blue Hat Green Hat, by Boynton! All our boys loved it and it has been the first “read” by myself book for them. We give it at all babyshowers!!
Happy fIrst month and blessing to little Elias.

  55. oh you two are darlin’ darlin’ darlin’! I love it 🙂 Elias is a doll…he barely moved the whole vlog…too cute 🙂

got your announcements! AHHHHH I love them girl 🙂 so fun! 🙂

  56. So the writing things down idea. I am doing that with Brandon. I have a regular calendar and every day I write something quick and simple down such as, “Visited gma and gpa” or “went to work with mom” or “went to dinner and shopping” or “took a shower with dad” Just simple ideas. I also write more significant things down too in more detail but this calendar thing reminds me of simple things and days events.
    Melilssa

  57. Pampers diapers, Huggies wipes. I have had four kids and that is exactly what I bought! 🙂 I love the videos. Thanks for sharing.

  58. Way back when my now-16-year-old son was born, we tried the cloth diaper thing. What a mess!! So, at around 3 months we switched to disposables (and felt guilty adding to the landfills…but rationalized that decision later when we realized we were only blessed with one child.)

I don’t remember having a favorite brand, but I do remember using diaper inserts at night to hold the AMAZING amount of pee that tiny baby could hold! I don’t really know what’s on the market now as far as disposable inserts. I’m guessing that now there are probably many washable, save the environment, inserts available. What we spent on inserts to double the holding capacity of the diapers was well worth the money we saved on Pampers or Huggies.

Reading your blog lately really jogs my memory. All I can say is keep enjoying every second–they will fly by faster than you can even imagine!

  59. Yes – Huggies diapers suck! Huggies wipes, rule! I don’t use Pampers, only because they are too spendy to keep throwing away, but I have found that the Sam’s brand diapers (Members Mark) are good! Not as snuggly soft as Pampers, but they are for butts, and how soft do poop catchers really need to be, anyway?

Thanks for the entertainment! It’s fun to “re-live” the first baby milestones with you guys.

  60. Found you on Angies blog..actually, stayed up VERY late to track Elias’ birth. Had to sleep. He is too cute! I agree about the Huggies wipes! There is a BIG difference. I have 3 kids and each used different diapers. I will tell you this. When he starts to crawl you may have to switch again. These needs do change as different diapers have different shapes. Just keep an open mind 😉
I love pampers and huggies but pampers stretch further. For my last son huggies supreme leaked BIG time but the regular ones didnt at all! Anyway-Happy 1 month Birthday Elias!!

  61. You are both wrong:) Whole Foods Brand diapers rock! Go on, try ’em. You’ll thank me later. On the wipes thing- Jessica, good work. Buy Matthew a pack of Cosco brand wipes and see what happens. He’ll be beggin’ for Huggies:) You guys are a dorable.

On another note, what is that awesome frame/window thing behind ya’lls head in the video? I can just tell it is really cool and creative. I have an old vintage window just waiting for me to do something crafty with it and that looks like a winner:)

  62. Don’t waste your time with the Costco wipes. Seriously.
And your love for pampers will only increase as he gets older (cruisers) unless you cross over to the cloth side (not as bad as you might think!)
trade in the tee tee tee pee or whatever for a wash cloth.
Your videos are so cute 🙂 So is that baby!

  63. elias is soo cute….and ya’ll are too! ok, i’ve got 2 of each sex kid and i used luvs w/ all mine (a bit cheaper…and they smell like baby powder). i’m a luvs fan and i really love target wipes—store brand, but oh, so soft!!

    ashlie in athens, ga

  64. My cousin told me about your blog (you were her RA) and I love it now!! This video is so fun – and we totally agree about pampers diapers and huggies wipes. (=
    Shena (=

  65. I have a son who just turned 2 years old in October 2008. I completely agree with you on the diapers and wipes! I used nothing but Pampers Swaddlers until he got too big for the Swaddler sizes and then we switched to Pampers Cruisers. They are AWESOME and they’re so stretchy and soft. And Huggies wipes are WAY thicker than Pampers wipes. I can not stand to use the Pampers wipes…it feels as if I may as well not use a wipe at all because they’re so thin. Anyway…I just had to let you know that “it’s not just you”. ha!
