The Diaper Champ
Now I suspect many of you are diaper genie users, but I am here to inform you that there is a better diaper disposal system in town – the diaper champ. Why is it better? Because it takes REGULAR garbage bags. No special bags for this disposal system. Seriously, you probably save hundreds of dollars because of this. Also, Baby Bargains ranks the Diaper Champ ahead of the Genie, so if you don’t believe me, surely you believe that fabulous resource. So, if you are a genie user, switch. Your bank account will thank you. 🙂

Munchkin Bottle Brush with Soap Dispenser
Seriously, this thing SUCKS. There is no other way to say it. The soap leaks almost immediately after you put it in the brush. And, if you use it before the soap has leaked, the soap doesn’t dispense well. I have been told that the Munchkin bottle brush with the nipple brush in the bottom is good, but I don’t know if I want to buy another Munchkin bottle brush since my experience has been so awful thus far with this brand. Right now we use an Advent bottle brush and it works great.
Let the fun begin: What do you think about these two items – diaper disposal systems and bottle brushes?
I had the diaper genie, and I threw it away, and don’t plan on using it with the new baby.
I did like the munchkin bottle brush that had the nipple thing on the bottom, but I never tried the one with the soap dispenser. I don’t think they even had it when I had my first child 5 years ago.
I love the bottle brush with the nipple cleaner. I still use the nipple cleaner for sippy cups. When you can’t get anything else in the grooves or in the sippy part this will do the trick…LOVE IT! I never had the one with the soap dispenser…sometimes I go with the why fix what isn’t broken.

Hey Jessica! I have a LOVE IT for you! (And I hope I am the first to share it with you) Go to inchbug.com and check out the bumpyname orbit labels. I LOVE THIS PRODUCT! They are “rubber bracelets” for sippy cups and bottles. Perfect for moms who take their child to a sitter or for church nursery. This way you don’t have to use a marker or tape to label their cups. Last forever too. I’ve had the 4 original ones I bought 2 years ago.
I have had horrible luck with the munchkin bottle brushes! They always fall apart for us! We wash bottles just about every night, so they do get alot of use, but still…isn’t that to be expected??
best unkept secret ever=diaper champ. I am such a believer. We dont even spend money on little garbage bages; we reuse walmart bags. yay for free!!!
i agree…the diaper genie is great…at least that’s what i hear and plan on using!
I used a Diaper Genie and hated it. Simple is better. Bag those babies up in those cheap smell good bags made especially for that purpose and toss them. We take out the trash everyday anyway. Complete waste of money for me.
Hate bottle brushes because I never found one that did the job properly. I’m like you. If I bought one and didn’t like it, I wasn’t going to buy another!

Diaper Champ rules! We got it as a gift with our first child (5 years ago) and it’s still going strong. Every once in a while, I take it outside, pour bleech in and let it soak. Dump it out, our driveway is uphill so this helps, rinse with the hose and let it dry in the sun. Good as new!
I never have like brushes/sponges with soap dispensers in them. They give out too much soap.

I haven’t used the Munchkin brushes, but I have used some other Munchkin products and they’ve been great…you might give the regular bottle brush a try.
Totally agree with you on both. Love the diaper champ because there are no bag refills to buy. Hate those bottle brushes. Bottle brushes in generally really don’t serve their purpose well.
I use the diaper genie….is a pain buying the refills but it works well. Didn’t know there was one out there that took regular garbage bags…learn something new everyday!
Whatever you do..don’t buy another Munchkin bottle brush. They all suck!! After four kids and many bottle brushes I can attest to this. We use the Avent one also and love it! Least complicated out there yet works very well…especially on their own bottles.
I use the regular munchkin bottle brush and I love it.. it has worked great for me.. I actually have bought one for my in-laws house so that she can have one there when i come to visit… we love them.. I would give the regular one a try.. I think i picked mine up at walmart for $3-$4which was better then the price for some others..
Well, we never have seen the diaper champ around so we still use our diaper genie, but the secret to it that we have is we kept the cartridge for the bags and just put a garbage bag in it. I mean we got the diaper genie as a gift, why not continue using it. It works good. Takes a little work to get the new bag on, but its a LOT cheaper than the bags. I love the Like it or Leave posts!! I have never used a diaper pail at all for any of my three kids. I have always just bagged the diaper in an old Walmart sack to recycle them. Then, I throw wet ones in the regular kitchen trash that goes out daily, or I take the bagged “poopie” ones directly to the garage trash can immediately. I have never had to clean anything or have odors in my house, plus it recycles all my Walmart sacks.
I also have never used a bottle brush, even though I have bottle fed my last two kids exclusively. Maybe I’m missing something, but I don’t know what it’s for. I use Dr. Brown plastic bottles. My daughter usually finishes all the milk for each feeding, I swish the bottle with water in the sink, and place in dishwasher. I never had a need for a bottle brush, and the bottles come out perfectly clean from the dishwasher.
I agree on the earlier post about the Bumpy Labels. I have used those personalized bands on my younger two kids’ bottles and sippy cups for about two years now. Love them!
I LOVE my diaper champ…we’ve had no issues with smells of anything. We also clean it out with bleach water once every other week, just in case…if yours does stink, stick a car freshener in the bottom. I hear it helps!!
We love the diaper champ. It is so much easier to use, and WAY less expensive. I am right there with ya…love it!

I love reading your blog! Thanks for sharing your lives with us. I began reading about you guys when I realized that our due dates were only a few days apart! My son Hayden was born about 5 days past my due date on July 25. Anyway…I love all the great mommy advise, and it feels great to know that other moms are just like me!!

I also love the diaper champ and we used it when our babies were little. Once they got to the stage where they have less dirty diapers we just hang a plastic grocery bag outside and toss it at the end of the day.
I also have the bumpy name labels and love them.
I did use the Munchkin bottle brush with the nipple cleaner and never had any problems. Like someone said it works well to clean the valves on sippy cups.
Never used the bottle brush with soap dispenser, but the one with the nipple at the bottom is wonderful! wal-mart and off brands ones are just as good, too. we bought ours at wal-mart for $.95 and it’s worked wonders for bottles and now sippy cups.
I had a different diaper pale at fisrt, but quickly ran out and got the diaper champ and I LOVE IT!!! It is by far THE best one out there!
I had a different one (not the Genie) by the time I discovered the Champ–but all my friends loved it. We just use a regular pail that’s *supposed* to have a little flap doohickey that keep the stink out. We’ve long since broken the flap, so now it’s basically just a big can. We use it for wet diapers only, and the couple of poopy ones go right in the garage. Works for us. (It also helps that we use target bags in the can, so they can never get really full, and we keep a box of baking soda in the bottom of the can.
As for the bottle brush, can’t remember what we used. I think it was one with a little nipple brush that came out of the handle. All I know is that every brush we ever had fell apart within a few months. But the nipple brushes have been repurposed for all sorts of things in our house!
I am a FTM due in December, so while I can not offer an opinion on this items- I am so glad you are taking time to share yours! Thank you for telling how much you like your Diaper Champ and why it’s better than a Diaper Genie- I was registered for one…not any more though! Thanks again!
I have the diaper champ and love it.
I have started e-mailing the company if I bought something that I hate. You would be surprised at how many times I get to pick something new or a replacement. So far the only company that hasn’t responded with an offer to make it right is Procter and Gamble.
we had the diaper champ and loved it! no added expenses and it was just as fresh smelling (as possible) with a few random sprays of lysol through out the week. didn’t have a special bottle brush. every one (i went through 5) fell a part as soon as i got them, so it seemed.
I love the regular Munchkin bottle brush with the nipple brush in the end. It is all I have used since my son was born a year ago. We used the BornFree bottles and it worked perfectly with them. It now works great for sippys too. As for the Diaper Champ, it is great and very handy, but after a while, it starts to really STINK! It doesn’t help us to use a new bag more frequently, Lysol, bleach water, or anything else. We hauled ours to the curb last trash day, as a matter of fact. Maybe my son has extra-smelly poo or we need industrial cleaner or something, but I wouldn’t have another one for our next child.
So funny reading the previous comment before mine because I was just about to say the same thing…we loved our Diaper Champ but around 5 or 6 months WHEW could it clear the room! We still have it but now it is in our garage. My mother in law took it outside in the sunshine and BLEACHED it TWICE and it still smells. But we do love that it takes garbage bags and also the easy flip method. My 18 month old now knows when he has a poopy diaper that he gets to carry it (I first seal it up, of course!) down to the garage and he flips it shut himself. So cute! (It’d be even cuter if he figured out how to dispose of his poop on the potty!)
I never used the soap dispenser one but the one with the nipple on the bottom is great. It keeps everything together.
Soiled infant diapers don’t really smell bad …my son is 11 months old and I am still tossing them in my kitchen garbage….no odor problems….when they atart to smell bad I just have a garbage in my garage and toss them out there.
I do use the Munchkin bottle brush but never use the nipple brush…I just wash in hot soapy water and use my finger to clean the nipple.
