  1. I love the one of you, matthew and elias by the truck, elias crying – no your not a bad mom. it is adorable. and the one of him sprawled all over the pumpkins. Elias is so adorable and you are right… he does have a million and one adorable facial expressions. Have a wonderful weekend.

  2. I love these photos. So cute.
especially the one of him crying with all the gourds! haha!

My son has allergies, and we suspected it when he was an infant. He has had an ongoing runny nose since he was a baby- and now we affectionetly call him booger boy! His defined allergies are peanuts, and strawberries. But he also has a mild allergy to food preservatives ( like MSG etc.)

But you are right, they won’t test until they are two or three. So for the meantime, write what you are eating and if he has a reaction: runny nose, rash, diaper rash, and see if you can find a pattern. You can do the same to for soaps, and materials.
    It’s not fun.

But it does get better. Caleb can now tell us what things make him itchy or his tummy hurt. And the dr. will give you a method of controlling the allergen.

I just pray that God will give you wisdom, comfort and peace as a mommy.

    Bless you !

  3. praying you have a low key week and that the mess gets taken care of. such cute shots of elias. i’ll be e-mailing you a photo of me with the book very soon. i just received it thursday and finished it last night. 🙂

  4. We ALL have allergies, ugh. I have especially bad seasonal allergies, so when Lady was about 7 months old and we hit Spring, she developed a pretty suspicious cough and runny nose (also clear, like Elias’). I brought her into the ped for a check to rule out a cold and also to have her ears checked, and our ped confirmed that it very well could be allergies. She was old enough for benadryl at that point, so I would dose her on her bad days. Her cough was a post nasal cough, and every now and then she WOULD develop an ear infection from all of the fluid, but that’s just our luck.

My sister’s little guy had a string of ear infections that they FINALLY traced to seasonal allergies, so he was put on Zyrtek (but his were so bad that he was considered a case for ear tubes.

I think the best thing you can do for Elias is to keep him sleeping on an incline (so sleeping in the swing is probably good, or put a little wedge under his mattress), and the cool mist humidifier will help keep him from getting dried out, so you’re doing the right things- good luck!

And I cannot TELL you how much tie I spent trying to get a shot of Lady and Mister in full on crying meltdown phase! I LOVE that shot of Elias, it’s adorable!!

  5. My gosh, my emotions kept changing drastically in this post… first, Elias is so stinking cute it’s ridiculous. Since you’re in marketing I think you should find some sort of modeling work for him. I swear I’ve never seen a baby smile so easily!

One of my nephews had allergies as a baby and was more susceptible to colds and especially respiratory stuff. Is he mainly stuffy or is he a little wheezy/coughing too? Sometimes steam helps, but there are times when letting them have a burst of cold air (like from opening the freezer door) will open the passages for a bit and give a little relief. So sorry he doesn’t feel well. That has to be so frustrating as a mom.

Your ceiling… man, that just sucks. And I’ll be saying some prayers for your Grandma. Both of my Grandpas had/have Alzheimer’s and I know how scary it is any time there’s a medical issue for fear it will speed up the process. I hope she recovers well and I’ll say a prayer for ALL of you that next week is much calmer than this weekend!!! 🙂

  6. It looks like you all had fun at the pumpkin patch despite the hot weather and the stuffy little guy!

Jessica, welcome to the world of babies with snotty noses, ear infections and colds. I remember them all too well. Natalie had something or other the first three years of her life and was constantly on antibiotics. We had her tested for allergies. Honestly, a complete waste of money. She was 2 at the time (pretty traumatic) You have to remember that babies don’t have the ability to blow their noses like we do. Their little nose passages are small and get clogged up quickly. I am sure he will be feeling better in a few days. The humidifier will help and unfortunately the little booger sucker outer thingy will help also.(I hated doing that but it works LOL)
Hi to you all!! Hope you are having fun together. Love you guys!

  7. Cute pictures!!!!! Had to say that first! No..you aren’t a bad mommy neither!

As for everything that’s been happening (no water, ceiling collapsing, grandma falling etc)..I have to wonder if it’s not the enemy trying to distract and discourage because of the book coming out?? Your husband, after all, has a type of ministry through his writing and I think when there are victories in LIFE this many times, happens. We don’t think to “spiritulize” it…but maybe we should.

Hope Elias feels better soon! Mommy too (from being possibly sleep-deprived)

  8. Hi Jessica,
Just wanted to pass this information along in case you are still nursing Elias. My 7 month old son was chronically congested, a spitter, and had very mild eczema behind his knees. We had been treating the eczema just fine with cream (knowing it could be caused by allergies but it was so easy to control, I hardly gave it another thought). Then my friend who has a son with severe reflux began reading everything she could about it, and happened to mention to me that a milk sensitivity can cause all of the above symptoms. When my son started wheezing a couple months ago, we knew we had to do something! So I cut all dairy out of my diet (still nursing) and he stopped wheezing and his eczema cleared up right away! It has been so hard, as dairy made up a big part of my diet. And whenever I splurge a little, my poor little man gets congested again.
Anyway, I’ve since heard it is the number one thing you should suspect for congestion and allergies in infants. Hope you figure out what is going on with him soon!

  9. Remember – you know your baby BEST! Make sure you ask all the questions you have of the doctor..
Don’t let them brush you off..ask for a complete blood count and blood test ( even if it is to rule out certain things!! ) You are your child’s advocate…Make the doctors go the distance with this..even if nothing serious is wrong, it will give you peace of mind..

  10. ok too cute i only wish we had pumpkin patches here! my sister is in ga and said that they went to one taday and they had so many events for the kids fun.

ok about the alllegies emmy has them we had to prop up her bed get a humififer and had recieved breathing treatments

  11. Aww, how stinkin’ cute!! I laughed when I read about you taking pics of him crying. I can only imagine what you were thinking!

  12. The pictures are adorable! My son who is now 2 has had allergies since he was an infanct. He had asthma as well. He was on soo many breathing treatments..I never had to prop him due to allergies though. Also, our Pedi told us that clear or green doesnt matter, that green can be ok and clear can be not ok..so WHO KNOWS! My son is much better and seems to have almost outgrown the problem! He also had 12 ear infections before he was ONE year old!! They said that was due to allergies as well..

  13. I was going to suggest that you cut out all dairy, but it looks like somebody beat me to it. It made all the difference with my son. He completely cleared up when I cut out just milk from my diet.
