Leslie Patricelli Books
I registered for a lot of books before Elias was born. One of my favorite board books I got was No No Yes Yes by Leslie Patricelli. It is the funny little book of this baby doing things he should and should not be doing. I love illustrations and the silly scenarios. When I opened the gift that had this book in it, I read it to everyone at the shower. 🙂
Well it turns out that Leslie Patricelli has a whole bunch of these books! I was delighted to receive two new ones in the mail to preview- Baby Happy Baby Sad and Higher! Higher! Both have Leslie’s signature style of cute illustrations and few words. I really liked the Baby Happy Baby Sad book because it does a great job of showing contrast, which I think will be a great teaching tool for Elias in the future. Elias seemed to really like it too. I think I am going to do a scrapbook layout inspired by the book of things that make Elias happy and make him sad. Won’t that be cute?
Higher! Higher! has adorable illustrations, but I didn’t like the book as much – I think because I like the simplicity of few words in board book form, but not traditional hardcover with thin pages? Does that make sense?
Do you have any Leslie Patricelli books? What ones do you like best?

I love that photo shot of you guys and the books sound good. I have never heard of her so would not know but thanks for sharing 🙂 xxx.
I really like her books! We have two of them “Yummy, Yucky” and “Big, Little”. My only complaint is that in each book I don’t like one page. In Yummy, Yucky there is a “Boogers are yucky” page that I just don’t like because I would rather not even teach my children ‘boogers’ as a word. In Big, Little there is a page that says “Ladies are big, Ladybugs are little” and while I appreciate the comparison I don’t really like the “Ladies are big” part. Not meaning to be picky though, honestly! It’s not a big deal or enough to make me not like her books but I don’t like those two pages as much as the rest! 🙂
OH.MY.GOSH Jessica, these are my favorite books in all the land. My little Olivia has all of them, and her favorite is No, No, Yes, Yes. She has them all memorized, and her favorite pages are at the end with other “No No, Yes Yes” things. We just got “Quiet, Loud” and “Happy Baby, Sad Baby.” Do you have Blankie? Or Binky?
I’m going to stop typing now because I feel like a goof for being so passionate about these books. Thank you for posting about this!
My daughter loves her Duck & Goose book about opposites (by Tad Hills). I think that opposites can be so extreme and so silly that kids really respond well to learning about them.
Makes total sense. I will have to check these three out. Books are a huge staple in our house.
@Mary – I LOVE the Duck & Goose book. Elias has the opposites one and the feelings one. I am obsessed. I want them all. 🙂
I’ve never heard of her before..I’ll have to check her out!
Have you ever tried any of Sandra Boynton’s books? My kids LOVE them!
We LOVE these books too. Big Little is our favorite but Blankie is another great one!
We have the No No Yes Yes one. My husband actually picked it up for my son for Christmas this past year. He thought it was hilarious. I didn’t know she had more books. Will have to check them out. Thanks
we *love* the Blankie book….so fitting in our house.
🙂
I have never ever heard of those, I will have to check that out! My daughter loves books. We have almost every single Karen Katz book. Those are awesome!
I’ve never heard of Leslie Patricelli but the books that my family (and most of my friends) has fallen in love with are the Sandra Boynton books. They are so clever and really hilarious. My son begs for The Going to Bed Book every night before he will fall asleep. His other favorites are What’s wrong little Pookie (which I know by heart), Let’s Dance, Little Pookie, Snuggle Puppy and Hippos go Berserk. I enjoy them just as much as my son. You should check those out.
Hi Jessica! You’ve got to check out “Big Little’…. “Ladies are big…. ladybugs are little…”- makes me laugh every time. My son’s favorite though is “Yummy Yucky”. “Quiet Loud” is also worth checking out. I’m glad to hear of others who enjoy her books too!
Oh I love her books…Yummy/Yucky is our all time favorite
