DIY: Fun Duck Tape School Notebook
This is a sponsored post written by me on behalf of The Duck Brand. All opinions are 100% mine.
Whenever we go to Target or the craft store, my kids love checking out the printed and colored Duck Tape. With 200 patterns available, we always spot a new design.
Needless to say, when we received a box of Duck Tape to review and craft with, they were over the moon.
Since we just went school shopping, I had a few extra composition notebooks that made the perfect base for a Duck Tape craft project. We took the notebooks and tape out on the deck to spend some time outside and craft. Seriously, you can pretty much personalize anything with Duck Tape – including school supplies. In the box that Duck Tape sent us, we had a variety of prints to choose from, including music notes, flowers and neon colors. I told the kids that they could create whatever pattern they wanted with the tape.
Because they are 4 and 7, they needed a little help tearing the tape off the rolls, so that was my job. Elias tried doing it himself, but the tape quickly got stuck together in his little hands.
Of course, that was hilarious to he and Adeline. Everything is funny at this age – I love it so much. I cut the strips and they adhered. It was a perfect, easy project for young kids because no mess was involved, thanks to not needing glue, staples, etc. Adeline did diagonals on one side of her book and stripes on the other. Elias took a more avant garde approach, placing the Duck Tape in many different directions. The spots that didn’t get covered up, he filled in with permanent marker. To further personalize the books, I said that they should each write their names on them. Adeline had me write on her notebook to “make it pretty.”
She then wrote fours down the back, “because I’m four.”
Naturally. Maybe I should start writing 33 on everything since I just had a birthday.
A few days after making the notebooks, we drove to Wisconsin for my grandma’s 90th birthday. The kids packed their own backpacks of things to do in the car and both brought along their special notebooks.
The Duck Tape made the covers extra sturdy and there was no bickering over whose notebook was whose. For lots more crafting inspiration check Duck Tape out on School Craft board on Pinterest, Twitter Instagram. Also Find Duck Tape here
Have you crafted with Duck Tape before, and if so, what did you make?
Love this! Especially because both of my kiddos had to get composition notebooks for their school supplies. They are pretty boring. This will make them so much more fun!
Crafts are always a great way to keep kids entertained. And yours look so sweet too 🙂
Hey Jessica,
I was “parked” next to you today on Think Tank, and I’m glad to find your post.
Cute duct tape notebooks. I love the colors and the smiles on your kids’ faces! Looks like you had much fun making these~
Hope you have a blessed day,
Melanie
I’m dropping by from the Play Party Pin link party. This is such a fun idea. I think I’m going to have to do this with my grandkids. One of my granddaughters is especially ‘into’ notebooks of all kinds.
I have a link party that I am trying to grow. I invite you to share this idea — and a couple of others — at my Grandma Ideas Sharing Time link party at http://grandmaideas.com. I think my readers would love this idea as much as I do.
The party goes from Wednesday through Friday night at midnight. I hope to see you there.
All the best,
Nina
This is a great idea to engage kids. And the notebooks are so colourful….Love it!
We love all the great designs in duct tape too! My daughter (now 18) has made so many things with duct tape. She has made flowers for a dress, covered a dresser, even put some on her walls! This stuff is great! I’m glad your kids had fun with it and I am sure they will come up with many more things to cover!
Loving this! You are so talented. Thanks for sharing this at our party. Pinned and tweeted. I hope to see you on Monday at 7 pm, so we get to party with you again! Lou Lou Girls
